Screw The Future

Jeff Simpson's column in today's Globe should be a wake-up call for a lot of my compatriots.   Should be, but likely won't be.   Sad truth is that a lot of us have been talking about this problem for years (I know I've been talking about this since HIGH SCHOOL, and somewhere there are ancient-editorials to prove it), and sounding apparently like Chicken Little.   Key quote:

In the past 20 years, Americans have increased public assistance to colleges and universities by 30 per cent in real terms, whereas public moneys in Canada have fallen by 20 per cent, after inflation.

You wonder why class sizes are growing, the undergraduate experience is weakening, and tuition fees are rising.
No, Jeff, some of us don't wonder.   This is the price we're paying for myopia.   Maybe The Soylent-Green Party is a thing whose time has come.
