The High Priest's final album will be released next Tuesday, as this blog has
previously reported. I know I'll be getting it sooner or later, and I'd encourage everyone else to as well, simply because it's our last chance to hear "new" Ray Charles, a last chance to listen to new material from a legend. The album's last song is "Crazy Love" with Van Morrison, Charles' only true heir, a fitting closure matched by the peculiar synchronicity of the album being released on Morrison's 59th birthday. You can find a prelimary review of the album
here which suggests Charles indeed went out with a bang.
Addendum: According to
this article (scroll down), the Charles/Morrison duet is the only live track on the album. How appropriate.
